Rant: I kept a paper list of my spending for 2 years and finally tried an app last spring
I was sure writing every purchase in a notebook was the only way I'd stick with it, and I did it for 2 years straight. Then in April I downloaded a free tracker and found out I'd been double counting my grocery runs almost every single time, which made my whole budget a lie. The app caught it because it pulls the actual charge instead of my half asleep scribble at 11pm. I'm not saying paper is dumb, but if your numbers never add up, that might be why. Has anyone else found a gap between what they wrote down and what actually left their account?
Man, the double counting thing would drive me crazy since it means every total you made was off. When you switched over, did you go back and redo the old notebook months at all, or just start fresh from April and let the old numbers stay wrong? I'm curious because that gap between the scribble and the real charge is probably way bigger than most people would guess.
