Put a $6 in-line fuel filter on my mower instead of rebuilding the carb, and it ran all season

I figured for 6 bucks it was worth a shot before pulling the whole carb apart, and it fired up first pull every time from April through October. Now I'm wondering what else I've been over-fixing, so what's the cheapest fix that ever saved you a rebuild?
