I finally counted the brake dust on my rims and found out why my pads were toast at 18k
Last month I was washing my car in the driveway and noticed the front rims were caked in black dust while the backs looked brand new. Started poking around online and found a real stat: front pads do about 70 percent of the stopping, so they wear way faster than the back ones. Called the parts counter at a place in Akron and the guy laughed, said he sees people buy four pads when they only need two. So I threw on a set of fronts only and the noise went away. Anyone else running fronts twice as often as rears, or is that just how I drive?
