Broke my trowel handle mid-wall last Thursday, what a mess
I was about halfway through a retaining wall job in Westbrook, maybe 3 hours in, and the handle on my Marshalltown just snapped clean off. Felt like the wood was dry rotted inside or something. Had to drive 20 minutes to the nearest supply house and grab a quick replacement, lost a good chunk of the afternoon. Anyone else had a handle go on them like that? I'm thinking of switching to a rubber grip model but not sure if they hold up better.

A Marshalltown handle snapping clean off? That one hurts. Those are usually the tanks of the trowel world, so dry rot sneaking in is a real bummer. Rubber grips can be good but they also get slippery when your hands are sweaty or covered in mud, so it's a trade-off. Lost half a day to a drive like that once and it makes you question everything about your tool setup.

Were you using a longer handled trowel or a standard one? I wonder if the extra leverage on a longer handle puts more stress on the wood where it meets the blade. That might be why some guys prefer the fiberglass handles on the heavy duty models.
