Tried a wet saw for the first time on a patio job, blade kept grabbing

Been doing mostly repointing and small walls for 8 years, so I finally rented a wet saw to cut pavers for a 400 sq ft patio outside Columbus. The blade kept grabbing and kicking the paver back at me, thought I got a bad saw or the diamond blade was junk. Turns out I was pushing too fast and not letting the blade do the work, slowed way down and it cut smooth as butter. Anyone else have a rough first wet saw experience or did I just skip a basic skill everyone else learned in trade school?

Heard a few old timers at the supply yard saying the same thing when I picked up my first wet saw. One guy told me its all about letting the blade weight do the cutting and you just guide it, soon as I stopped muscling it through, the grabbing stopped completely too. Sounds like you figured it out faster than most people do. The kickback is scary, had a paver fly at my shins once before I slowed down. Definitely one of those things that feels simple but theres a trick to it.
