Tried laying a 40 foot wall without a string line last Tuesday and the brick told on me
I was on a job in Dayton last Tuesday and decided to skip the string line on a 40 foot wall because I was cocky and running behind. I laid the first 6 courses fine, but by course 9 the wall had a bow you could see from the street. The lead mason walked over, ran his level along the top, and just said 'that's a banana, not a wall.' I pulled 22 brick and relaid them the right way, which cost me about 3 hours I did not have. What I learned is the string is not a suggestion, it is basically the only thing keeping me honest on long runs. Anyone else get lazy with the line when they think they can eyeball it?
