Got a $2,300 estimate to replace my AC, did it myself for $380, now I'm wondering what else I should stop paying for
Last Tuesday my 12 year old unit finally died in the middle of a 104 degree week here in Fresno, and the first company I called quoted $2,300 for a full swap plus $180 just to walk in the door. I spent $380 on a condenser fan motor and a capacitor at a supply house across town, watched two videos, and had cold air back in about 4 hours. It got me thinking about which repairs are actually worth paying for and which ones we just assume we can't handle, so what's the one thing you used to always call a pro for that you now do yourself?
