My old freezer finally gave out and cost me $200 in meat

My 15 year old chest freezer in the garage died last Tuesday while I was at work. Didn't notice until I got home and the kitchen light was flickering weird. Lost about $200 worth of venison and chicken thighs I'd been stockpiling from sales. Ended up borrowing a buddy's truck to haul the replacement from Lowe's and now I'm watching it like a hawk.

That line about "watching it like a hawk" hits home. Seems like everything these days has a built-in expiration date that's way shorter than it used to be. My parents had a fridge that ran for 25 years without a hiccup, but now I'm on my second washing machine in a decade and the new one already sounds like it's planning its retirement. It's like manufacturers figured out we'll just buy another one, so why make it last.

And don't even get me started on the circuit boards. I had a dryer that just stopped working one day, no warnings or anything. Turns out the control board fried itself. Part was $200 and then you gotta pay someone to install it if you're not handy. Meanwhile, my grandpa's old gas dryer from the 80s is still running in my buddy's garage. It's like they stopped making them with actual replaceable parts and just slap these electronic boards on everything now.
