Rant: I called the city about a $60 water bill spike and the fix saved me $340 a year
I figured the spike was just summer watering and almost paid it, but a guy at the Garland water office named Marcus walked me through my meter readings over the phone. Turns out a worn flapper in the upstairs toilet was running all day, and my sprinkler timer was set to water twice after rain. Fixed the flapper for $8 at the hardware store and cut the timer back, and my bill dropped from $95 to $52 by the next cycle. Anyone else found a leak they blamed on the season?
My buddy Dave in Mesquite had the same thing last July, his bill jumped about 40 bucks and he was sure it was just the heat, but it turned out to be the fill valve in his guest bathroom running nonstop. He swapped it out for around 12 dollars and his next bill came back normal. Those silent toilet leaks add up way faster than people realize.
