I finally stopped fighting dirty battery contacts, a $7 file fixed it

My kid's old Game Boy Advance kept dying after a few minutes, even with fresh AAA's. I was about to replace the whole power switch board, but then I noticed green crust inside the battery holder. A cheap jewelers file and some vinegar wiped that corrosion off the contacts, and it's been running solid for 2 weeks now. Anyone else wasted cash on replacement parts before trying the simple cleaning route first?
