The $15 heat gun I almost skipped saved my Switch repair

I was dead set against using a heat gun on my Joy-Con drift fix because I figured it'd melt the plastic, but after 3 failed attempts with a hairdryer I caved and grabbed a cheap one from Harbor Freight. That thing loosened the adhesive on the ribbon cable in like 20 seconds flat, no damage at all, and the swap took me under an hour total. Has anyone else had a tool they resisted forever that turned out to be the actual key?

Man, I've been there. I remember reading somewhere that the key was just getting the adhesive warm enough to let go, and once I tried a heat gun on an old controller I had lying around, it made total sense why people swear by em.
