Saw a guy at the grocery store buy a whole cart of canned beans

I was at the Kroger on Maple Street yesterday and this guy had a cart filled with nothing but black beans and chickpeas. He had at least 30 cans. I asked him if he was stocking up for a food drive or something. He said no, he just figured out that with a big bag of rice and some spices, he could eat for a month on about $40. Has anyone else tried a plan like that? I'm curious if it actually works or if you'd just get sick of it.

Oh man, that reminds me of my buddy Dave. He tried the whole rice and beans thing for a budget challenge last year. He made it about two weeks before he started texting me pictures of sad looking bean bowls, saying he'd give his left arm for a cheeseburger. He said the math worked, but his willpower didn't. He ended up caving and ordering a pizza, which totally blew the budget. I guess it works if you have the stomach for it, literally and mentally.

Wait, @verac40, your friend Dave lasted TWO whole weeks on just rice and beans?

Dave's math might have been off on the protein side (beans have it, but not tons). @verac40, he probably felt so weak because his body was missing key stuff like certain vitamins and fats. That's why those extreme food plans never last, you miss too many nutrients to feel okay.
