Got scammed by a fake hostel booking in Barcelona at 2am
Showed up to this place I booked through a random site, 15 euros a night. Nobody was at the front desk. Waited an hour. Finally a guy comes out and says the address isn't even a hostel, it's apartments and my booking didn't exist. Had to scramble and find a last minute room for 45 euros that night. How do you even check if a hostel is real before you get there?

Book straight from hostelworld or the actual hostel's site. Check google maps street view before you go. If the price looks too good for the area it's probably fake. Also look for recent reviews not just the total score. I always message the place a day before to confirm and see if they respond.
