Stopped at a diner in Amarillo and their card reader ran on dial-up
I grabbed lunch at a truck stop diner off I-40 in Amarillo and went to pay, and the waitress told me the card machine was on a phone line. She said it takes about 40 seconds per transaction and they lose the line whenever it rains. I asked why they don't just get cable or fiber out there and she laughed and said the owner got a quote of $1,800 to run a line to the building and said forget it. Any of you deal with small spots like this where the owner just eats the slowdown instead of paying for real internet?
