The $15 torque wrench that almost cost me a wheel bearing job

Picked up a cheap clicker torque wrench at a flea market in Dayton, and it felt fine for lug nuts but I trusted it for a new hub assembly last month. Snugged everything down per the markings, drove 40 miles, and heard a noise like a popcorn machine before one stud sheared clean off. Has anyone else had a bad calibration surprise with budget tools, or am I just the unlucky one who should've borrowed a Snap-On?
