I was at a garage sale in Boise last Saturday and this older guy was selling his mom's old cast iron skillet for $18. I grabbed it because the cooking surface felt like glass. My neighbor Tom saw me carrying it home and said I wasted my money on a rusty old pan when a $40 nonstick set from the big box store would do the same job. That was two years ago. Since then I've cooked on that pan maybe 300 times, reseasoned it twice with plain Crisco, and it still slides eggs around like ice. Tom's nonstick set went in the trash after 14 months when the coating started peeling. Funny part is he borrowed my pan last month for his daughter's wedding brunch and kept texting me asking where I bought it. So what's the oldest thing still working in your kitchen right now?
