Rant: my $15 drugstore can opener outlasted my $60 electric one by 12 years
I got an electric can opener as a wedding gift back in 2011 and it died on me last month, just quit mid can of black beans. Meanwhile the cheap manual one my mom tossed in a moving box when I left home in 2003 still opens everything I throw at it. The electric one had a cord, a motor, and a little blade that got dull and started leaving metal shavings in the tuna. Now I just clamp the old manual one on the counter and crank it, takes ten seconds and zero thought. Anyone else notice the cheap stuff with no moving parts tends to outlive the fancy stuff with a plug?
I mean a can opener is a can opener, not exactly a life or death situation here. Sure the manual one lasted longer but you're comparing a simple clamp and gear to a motor, so of course the one with moving parts wears out.
