That time a thrift store clerk talked me out of a $200 cast iron pan
I was in a Goodwill in Portland last month, holding this gorgeous 12 inch cast iron skillet marked at $200 because someone thought it was vintage Le Creuset. The clerk walked over, turned it over, and pointed to the tiny “Made in China” stamp near the handle. She said, “Hon, this is a knockoff, not worth $20,” then showed me a beat-up Lodge pan for $8 on the shelf below. I almost walked out embarrassed, but she spent 10 minutes teaching me how to spot real vintage pans by the smooth cooking surface and the weight. Have any of you gotten saved from a bad buy by a random employee or stranger?
