Fusion splicing vs mechanical connectors, changed my whole approach after 5 years
I used to swear by mechanical connectors for every repair because they were fast and cheap, but after 3 failed splices on a wet line last winter outside of Denver, I finally bought a used fusion splicer and learned the hard way. Now I only use mechanical for temp fixes, and the fusion unit has cut my rework calls down by half, even if the setup takes longer on the truck. Has anyone else gone through this switch, or do you still trust mechanical for the permanent stuff?

Remember fusion splicers hate wet lines too, that's more about prep than the tool.
