Hit 12,000 splices yesterday and finally stopped fighting the cheap fusion tool
I've been doing fiber to the home installs for about 7 years now, mostly around the Tacoma area. For the longest time I swore the $300 fusion splicer from the discount supply place was fine, just needed patience. But after my 12,000th splice yesterday, I counted up how many re-splices I had done trying to get clean losses under 0.05 dB. It was over 400, and that number just hit me different. The cheap tool was taking longer, burning more buffer, and I was the one making excuses for it every single time. My buddy let me borrow his mid range unit for one afternoon, and I did 18 splices without a single redo. That was the proof I needed, I finally ordered the better splicer last night. Has anyone else tracked their rework count and let that number talk them into spending the money?

Counting my redo pile made me switch too. Best money I've spent.
