Screw the $60 tester, my cheap continuity light saved the call
Out on a service call in Tacoma last Friday, the fancy tester kept flashing false positives on a drop line. I threw it aside and grabbed the old 9-volt buzzer rig I built from a RadioShack kit back in 08. Problem was a cracked connector half hidden in a wall plate, took me 10 minutes to find once the buzzer gave a solid tone. My coworker still swears by the digital stuff, but has anyone else had better luck with homemade tools on sketchy signal issues?
