Can we talk about how many screws get lost on a single Canon AE-1 teardown?
I keep a tally sheet on my bench now, mostly out of boredom, and last month I counted 47 screws to pull the top plate and mirror box on a single AE-1. What surprised me was finding out from an old service manual that Canon listed the exact same body screw in four different lengths, and mixing them up can jam the film advance. I learned this the hard way on a customer's camera back in March, spent two hours chasing a bind that turned out to be one long screw in a short hole. Now I lay them out on a magnetic mat in rows and label each step with painter's tape. Anybody else keep a running count on common bodies, or am I the weird one with the tally sheet?
