Question about a stuck filter ring and the trick an old timer showed me at the camera swap in Portland
I was at the Portland camera swap 3 months ago and an old timer saw me fighting a stuck filter ring on a 50mm. He told me to stop squeezing the ring and instead press the lens face down on a rubber jar opener and twist the barrel, not the ring. Took me 4 seconds after 20 minutes of swearing and a near miss with pliers. Now I keep a $2 jar opener in my bench drawer and it has saved 6 lenses since. The trick works because you spread the force around the whole ring instead of pinching one spot. Anyone else got a swap meet trick that sounds dumb but actually works?
