Thought ultrasonic cleaners were overkill for camera repair until a Rolleiflex proved me wrong
I used to think popping a lens in an ultrasonic cleaner was just a fad for people who like gadgets. Then a customer brought in a Rolleiflex from 1958 that had sat in a garage in Fort Worth for 20+ years, and the shutter was gummed up so bad it wouldn't fire at all. A repair buddy talked me into a 5 minute bath in the tank at 40C with the shutter assembly stripped down, and it freed up without me having to do a full tear down. Now I keep one on the bench full time. Has anyone else had luck running focus helicals through one, or is that pushing it?
