Bought a cheap $20 lantern and it ruined my whole weekend trip
I figured I'd save some cash and grabbed a no-name LED lantern from a discount store for my camping trip last month in Shenandoah. First night it was okay, dim but fine. Second night the switch started sticking and it flickered like crazy until the battery cover popped off and the batteries fell out in the dark. Ended up using my phone flashlight for like 2 hours while I tried to fix it. Total waste of $20, should have just put that money toward a better one from the start. Has anyone else had a cheap camping light fail on them at the worst time?

When you say "battery cover popped off," was it just a cheap clip or did it actually break?

Honestly @grant.luna I gotta push back on this one lol. You said "cheap clip" but honestly most of those battery covers are designed to pop off on purpose if you drop the controller. If it was a solid clip that held on for dear life you'd probably crack the whole housing instead which is way worse. I've seen people complain about this exact thing and then they get a replacement and the clips are exactly the same. Plus a lot of times the battery cover still clicks back on fine even after it pops off so it's not really broken it's just doing what it's supposed to do. I'd rather have a loose cover than a shattered controller any day of the week honestly.
