Took me 3 weekends to figure out my brake lights were out because of a $4 socket in my 2003 Ranger

I swapped bulbs, the switch, and even chased wires for hours before my neighbor pointed out the socket itself was so rusted it wasn't grounding, has anyone else had a dirt cheap part waste a whole month of their life?
