Vent: dropped $180 on a 'performance' chip for my 2003 Corolla and it did nothing but throw a check engine light
Bought one of those plug and play chips off a guy on Facebook Marketplace in Fresno who swore it added 35 horsepower. Spent a whole Saturday splicing it into the intake sensor wiring and the car ran worse right away. Two days later the check engine light came on and my mechanic quoted me $90 just to read the codes and clear them. That money would have covered a whole junkyard intake and a real tune up instead. Anyone know a cheap way to actually get a few more horses out of a 1.8 without blowing the budget?
