Debate: Is "quiet quitting" just doing your job or a career killer? I was skeptical at first.
I used to think quiet quitting was just people making excuses for being lazy, but after 2 years of watching coworkers burn out and get nothing extra for it, I'm starting to see the other side. Has anyone here tried scaling back to just your job description and actually seen better career growth, or did it backfire?

So the secret to getting ahead is actually doing less? That's a weirdly refreshing plot twist. Maybe the real career killer is pretending you can handle unlimited free work.

Actually have a buddy who tried this at a marketing firm. He stopped staying late and answering emails after 6pm, just did his listed duties. He figured he'd get fired or passed over. Instead his boss actually started appreciating him more because his work during normal hours was cleaner and he wasn't making mistakes from being exhausted. Last I heard he got a small raise and more interesting projects people trusted him with. Definitely depends on the workplace culture though, some places see it as a betrayal and will hold it against you.
