The code book that changed how I bid jobs overnight

I was pricing a deck rebuild in Portland last month and got curious about the 2021 IRC span tables for joists. Turns out the max span for a 2x8 at 16 on center is way shorter than I'd been using from habit. I've been doing this 15 years and never checked the actual code edition, just went off what the old guys told me. Now I'm second guessing every beam Ive ever spec'd. Have any of you had to eat a rework because a span table update caught you off guard?
