A damp concrete slab taught me a costly lesson

I was laying down plush carpet in a basement job last month. The concrete felt dry, so I didn't use my moisture meter. Wrong move. Got a call after a few weeks about a weird smell. Found mold growing under the new carpet. Had to rip it all out and treat the slab. Lost a day of work and ate the cost for new pad. Now I test every floor, no exceptions. Anyone run into this before?

The "no exceptions" rule is smart after a hit like that. My meter always comes out of the truck now, even for slabs that feel bone dry. It's cheaper than a callback every single time.

Got a recommended moisture meter now, or did this just change how you check the slab?
