The drywall patch that saved my knees on a 1,200 sq ft job

Did a big residential install last Tuesday in Portland where the homeowner had this weird raised threshold between the hallway and living room. Every pass over it with the knee kicker felt like I was doing squats on a curb. After about 40 yards my knees were screaming, so I grabbed a scrap piece of 1/2 inch drywall from the garage and laid it flat over the hump, taped it down with duct tape. Worked like a charm, kicker glided right over it and I finished the whole 1,200 sq ft in one run without stopping. Anyone else ever rig up a ramp like that or do you just man up and eat the knee pain?

Honestly I kinda wonder if the drywall ramp is just masking the real problem. You mentioned the kicker gliding over it like that's a win, but all that extra material under the plate throws off your angle and pressure, so you're probably overcompensating on every single kick without noticing. Plus that tape can shift mid-run, and then you're fighting a moving target which is way worse on the knees than just sucking it up for a few seconds. I'd rather take the sting for 20 minutes than risk wrecking my form for the whole job, you know?
