Watched a crew demo a 30 year old shag carpet today and found oak floors underneath
That shag was installed in '92 and it was matted down so bad you could see the traffic paths worn into it. Has anyone else noticed how much better carpet padding has gotten since the rebond foam came in?

Remember reading a study a few years back that said the old fiber pad actually compressed over time and lost most of its bounce within 5 years. The rebond stuff they started using in the late 90s really does hold up way better, especially the high density kind. You could probably walk on that old shag for a month and it would stay matted down for good.

Rebond stuff held up way better" - you ever pull that old fiber pad up? Smelled like decades of secrets.
