That $200 ceramic coating kit was a total waste of money
Spent $200 on a DIY ceramic coating kit from an online detailing store last spring. Figured it would save me cash compared to getting it done by a pro. Applied it exactly like the video said, did the whole paint correction step first. Looked great for about three weeks, then water spots started etching into it, and now the hood looks cloudy. Took it to a detailer for a quote to fix it, and he said those consumer kits are basically just overpriced spray wax. He wanted $600 to strip it and apply a real coating. Should have just kept using the $15 sealant I bought at the auto parts store. Has anyone else gotten burned by those DIY kits or did I just mess up the application?

My buddy tried that same kit on his truck and now the roof looks like a melted crayon.

Not gonna lie I used to defend those ceramic kits hard. Thought it was all about prep work and user error. Then I dropped $180 on one of the popular ones, followed every step to the letter, even bought extra microfiber towels. Looked killer for maybe two weeks. After that it was downhill fast. Got these nasty spiderweb scratches just from drying it with a clean towel. Finally gave up and paid a pro to do it right. That coating has been solid for over a year now. Those consumer kits are just snake oil with fancy marketing.
