Guy at a junkyard in Nashville told me I was wasting time chasing rust
I used to spend hours trying to save rusty floor pans with wire wheels and filler. He said just find a cleaner shell for the same money, and I've stopped dragging my feet on two projects since then. Anyone else had to learn to let go of a beater that was too far gone?

Funny enough @parkerk56, my buddy still calls me "Rusty Jake" because I spent six months trying to save a Bronco that turned out to be 40% bondo by weight.

Did you ever stop to think that the real cost isn't the metal but the time you could have spent driving a reliable truck instead of wrestling a rotbox? I finally added up all the weekends I wasted on one project that was basically a Flintstones car underneath and realized I could have just bought a whole running parts truck for what I spent on patches and beer for buddies helping me weld. That junkyard guy was looking out for you - sometimes the hardest thing is admitting a shell is just a parts donor at best.
