TIL the plastic intake manifold on my old Taurus was a known grenade and the metal one from a junkyard fixed it
Pulled the engine cover off my 2003 Taurus last Saturday in my driveway in Dayton and the plastic intake runner was cracked all the way through at the seam. Did some reading and found out Ford used that plastic manifold on a bunch of these and they like to split right there. Got a metal one off a wrecked car at the pick and pull for $48 and everything bolted right up. Been three weeks of daily driving with no check engine light. What other parts swap across years like that where the newer one is just built tougher?
