Chasing a shimmy on my $2,300 Crown Vic for a full month

Picked up a 2004 Crown Vic in Phoenix last month for $2,300, drove it 400 miles home and it had this nasty shake at 65 mph. Replaced the front tires, got the wheels balanced twice, even swapped the tie rods, still shaking. My buddy finally noticed the rear drums were heat spotted and the drums had a slight bend, so I grabbed a junkyard set for $60. Feels like a different car now. Anyone else chased one dumb issue on a cheap ride way longer than the car was worth?
