I finally compared a salvage title car vs a clean title car for my latest daily driver

Picked up a 2004 Corolla with a rebuilt salvage title for $1,800 and a clean title 2005 Civic for $3,200 a few months apart. The Corolla had a scratched up bumper and a replaced fender but the engine is dead quiet. The Civic had a clean record but needed a new alternator and a brake line within the first 2 months. Ended up keeping the Corolla cause it costs half as much to fix and insure. Anyone else had better luck with salvage cars than clean ones?

Yeah I bought a salvage 2001 Camry with a smashed rear door for $900. Fixed the door myself for under $200 and that car ran like a top for five years without a single issue. Meanwhile my buddy's clean title Focus was in the shop three times the first year for transmission problems.

Right there with you @harperp31. Had a salvage Honda Accord that looked like a wreck but never skipped a beat. My sister's brand new Chevy blew a head gasket before 30k miles. Sometimes the cheap beaters have more fight in 'em than the fancy ones.
