Lost $40 last week because the ATM gave me counterfeit bills and I had no receipt

Pulled out $200 from a random ATM on 34th street Tuesday night, and four of the twenties felt weird at the register the next day. The bank says without a receipt they cant do anything, has anyone else dealt with fake cash from a machine?

but come on man, how do you pull out cash from some random machine at night and not check the bills? i've watched people count their money right at the ATM before they even walk away from it. if you had done that and found fakes then you'd have a real case. also the bank can't just give you money back without a receipt or any proof. that's like buying a candy bar, eating it, then going back and saying it was rotten without the wrapper. you had no way to trace where those twenties came from. next time use a reputable bank's ATM and count your cash right there.

Not entirely sure I agree there. In my experience, some ATMs have terrible lighting and you're just trying to grab the cash and get back in your car fast. I've definitely grabbed a wad from a machine at night and not done a full inspection until I got home. Not saying it's smart, but not everyone's gonna stand there counting like a bank teller in the dark.
