Watched a guy at the Kroger on 5th pay $4.29 for a rotisserie chicken and eat it standing up in the parking lot
I was loading bags into my trunk outside the Kroger on 5th street last Tuesday when I saw this older dude in a work jacket walk out with a hot rotisserie chicken, no bag, just the container. He popped the lid on his tailgate, pulled a loaf of day-old bread out of his backseat that had the yellow sticker on it, and just started tearing pieces off both and eating right there over the open trunk. I laughed and asked if he was ok and he goes, "four dollars and twenty nine cents, that's five meals if I stretch it with rice." He wasn't joking or embarrassed at all. He showed me the receipt tucked in his visor, chicken plus the marked down bread plus a bag of carrots came to under seven bucks total. I think about that guy every single time I catch myself grabbing a sad $9 sandwich at the deli counter. Do you folks break down a whole chicken like that or do you just eat it hot and call it one dinner?
