A customer's kind words turned my okay day around

Finished up a sweep at a place with a tricky access point yesterday. It went smooth but I was feeling a bit tired. The homeowner stopped me on the way out to say how thorough I was. He mentioned his last sweep missed a big nest in the cap. That little chat really picked up my spirits for the rest of the calls.

I read a survey a while back that said 60% of frontline workers feel their best effort goes unnoticed. So when a customer actually points out you did a good job on the small stuff, it hits different. It's not just a nice thing to say, it's proof the grind matters. That's probably why a simple comment about finding a missed nest can change your whole outlook for the day.

Last year's data from a retail union survey found that 70% of workers said management recognition mattered more than customer comments. I see why customer praise seems important, but it's a small comfort in a broken system. Most frontline jobs have core problems like bad pay and no real support from bosses. A nice comment might feel good for a minute, but it doesn't fix those everyday struggles. The grind matters, but what workers really need is change that comes from inside the company. That survey number shows where the focus should be.

Wait, 70% said that? That's way higher than I expected. I figured a lot of people would want the boss to notice, but not that many. It really shows how disconnected management must be if that's what most workers are saying they need.
