Customer in Omaha asked me to sweep her chimney while her parrot watched and I still think about it
Was doing a routine sweep on a two story house in Omaha last week and the lady insisted her African grey parrot had to stay in the room because it gets lonely. About halfway through the job the bird starts mimicking my brush scraping and screeching 'SORRY, SORRY, SORRY' over and over. The homeowner just shrugged and said he picked it up from her ex husband. I finished the flue, packed up my rods, and got out of there as fast as I could. Anyone else had a pet make a job weird like that?
That parrot story is wild and I can totally see how it messed with your head. My cousin does HVAC in Kansas City and got called to a house where the owner had this ancient cockatoo that screamed "GET OUT" every time the furnace kicked on. The owner just laughed and said it learned it from her late husband who hated the cold (which is kind of funny but also super creepy when you're alone in a basement). The worst part was the bird would only do it when the owner left the room, so my cousin looked insane trying to explain why he ran upstairs. Pets pick up the strangest stuff from people and then just repeat it at the worst possible time with zero context. At least your parrot had manners, even if the timing was terrible.
