Kept buying fancy Tupperware containers and still threw out half my leftovers, then I figured out the actual problem
I spent about $85 over the past year on glass containers with those locking lids because I thought my food was going bad in cheap plastic. But last Tuesday I pulled out a container of chili I made on Sunday and it was already fuzzy, and I just stood there in my kitchen in Modesto feeling dumb. The containers were never the issue. What was really happening is I kept putting hot food straight in there and sealing it up, so all that steam turns into water and makes everything soggy and gross by day two. I started letting stuff cool on the counter for like 30 minutes before it goes in the fridge, and now I get four or five days out of the same batch. Also learned to stop shoving containers in the back of the top shelf where I forget them, because if I can't see it, it's gone. The glass lids help but honestly the cooling thing was the whole game. Anyone else figure out their leftovers were dying from steam and not from bad storage?
