Remember when you actually had to hand wash your reusable grocery bags?

I used to toss my cloth bags in the laundry maybe twice a year, but after reading about how much bacteria they hold, now I rinse them out after every trip and hang them dry on the porch. Started doing this about 6 months ago when I saw a neighbor's kid get sick from a leaky chicken package that had sat in a bag for a week. It's a small thing but it adds time to my routine and I wonder how many people still just stuff them in the trunk without a thought. Has anyone else found a good system for this, or do you just throw them in with your regular wash?

Wait, you seriously rinse them after every single trip? That's dedication. I just toss mine in the wash maybe once a month with a load of towels, but honestly I bet that's not enough. I'm gonna start doing the porch dry thing though, that's smart cause the sun probably kills off some germs.

My neighbor actually got a bad stomach bug from her bags and swore she'd never skip washing again. She keeps a tiny mesh laundry bag in her trunk now and just tosses them in with her towels on hot every few weeks.
