That local climate meetup in Portland changed my whole approach to food waste

I went to a community workshop last month at the Portland Eco Center, and a guy from the city's composting program showed us how much methane actually comes from food scraps in landfills. Turns out, about 8% of global emissions come from food waste alone, which I had no idea was that high. Now I'm actually using a countertop bin and taking it to a drop-off spot every few days. Has anyone else found a system that works without it getting gross or smelly?

It's actually closer to 6-7% of emissions, but the point still stands.

Ha, well 6-7% is still way too much if you ask me. Maybe we should just round up and call it "too dang much" and move on. But hey, at least the math nerds can have their victory lap on this one. Nobody ever won an argument by being exactly right about emissions percentages anyway, right? What's your take on the bigger picture here?
