Everyone says the 1992 Duke-Kentucky shot was the biggest clutch moment and I don't buy it
I was digging through old tournament stats last week after a friend swore Laettner's turn-around was the most pressure-packed play in college hoops history. Then I found the box score on Sports Reference and saw he went 10 for 10 from the field and 10 for 10 from the line that night, 40 points with zero misses. That's not a guy rising to the moment, that's a guy having a normal Tuesday while everyone else panicked. Clutch should mean beating the odds, and a senior All-American hitting an open look over a freshman isn't that. The real crumble in that game was Kentucky's defense letting him catch the ball clean at the top of the key with 2.1 seconds left. Give me Christian Laettner the whole game over one lucky fadeaway. Does anyone else think we confuse famous endings with actual pressure?
