I thought calling a timeout before the kick was soft, until Saturday's game changed my mind
My buddy Dave and I argue about this all the time at the sports bar in Toledo, and I was always on the side of letting the kicker just kick it, no icing, no timeout. Then our high school team was up 21-20 with 4 seconds left, and the other team lined up a 38 yard field goal, and our coach called timeout right as the kid was about to snap it. The kid made the first one, but it didn't count, and on the second try he pushed it wide left by maybe 2 feet. Dave just looked at me and said nothing for a solid minute. Now I think the timeout is a real weapon if you use it right, not just some coward move. Has anyone else flipped on this, or am I the only one who changed teams on icing the kicker?
