The 2-minute rule that saved my free throw routine
Been coaching a rec league in Dayton for two seasons now. Kids kept freezing up at the line in close games. Watched film from last 12 contests. Every miss was preceded by a long pause, like they were overthinking the motion. Started having them shoot within 2 seconds of catching the ball, no dribble routine allowed. Took about 6 practices but the difference was huge. Free throw percentage jumped from 61% to 74% in actual games. The ones who still hesitate are the ones who miss in the fourth quarter. Anyone else ever tried forcing a time limit on a pre-shot routine?
