Vent: I used to fold under pressure at chess, then a guy in the park showed me one trick
Lost 14 straight games at the tables in Bryant Park because I panicked every time my queen got chased. Started slowing down and counting one full breath before each move, and won 6 of my next 8 against the same regulars.
Man, breathing before a move sounds so simple but it actually works. I read a book once, "The Art of Learning" by Josh Waitzkin, and he talked about how he would build in these tiny reset routines between points in chess and martial arts. Not some big ritual, just a way to stop the panic loop your brain gets stuck in. Count one breath, feel your feet on the ground, then look at the board fresh. Same thing you found in the park. People sleep on the boring stuff but it beats memorizing openings when your hands are shaking.
