Rant: I ran my VF-2 with the door open for 3 weeks until the safety guy at the Ontario plant caught me
I know everyone says keep the door shut and run it by the book, but at the Ontario job last month I had a run of 400 small aluminum brackets and the coolant was fogging up the window so bad I couldn't see my offsets. So I propped the door and ran it that way for 3 weeks, just watching the toolpath over the top and listening for chatter. Then the safety guy walked by and shut the machine off mid-cut, made me re-datum the part and sit through a 20 minute talk about the interlock. I still think line of sight beats any camera or window, but now I crack the door, check my numbers, and shut it before the spindle spins up. Anyone else run a machine with the door cracked or am I the only one who does this?
