Guy in line at Micro Center in Chicago asked why I was buying a $60 book on Python and it bugged me all the way home
He saw the book in my hand and just asked, plain as anything, "you know all that's free online, right?" I kind of laughed it off but he had a point, because I'd been stuck on the same while loop for 3 days and buying another book felt easier than actually sitting down and writing bad code. The thing is, I think I've been collecting resources instead of practicing, like buying 5 courses on Udemy and finishing none of them counts as learning. So now I'm only doing one free site and writing ugly little scripts that break, and honestly it's going better than anything I paid for. How do you all stop yourselves from hoarding tutorials and just build stuff already?
Buying 5 courses and finishing none of them counts as learning" is the funniest lie we all tell ourselves. I've got a bookmark folder full of tutorials that's basically a graveyard at this point. The trick for me was realizing that reading about code feels productive but it's really just procrastination with extra steps. You already found the answer though, writing ugly scripts that break teaches you way more than a $60 book ever will.
